Made in collaboration with our friends at Sleeping Village
Warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy; the keen observations and reflections of a front stoop philosopher. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville’s Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn’t seem to matter much – at its core, the songs rings true.

McKinley Dixon

A sense of yearning for something more, of creation as means to transcend the facts of everyday reality, is central to Dixon’s music. Who is the greatest rapper of all time, in his mind? Toni Morrison, the first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize for literature. Her novels dealt with American history and its entanglement with the Black experience, locating eruptions of longing and escape with the beautiful sweep and precision of her prose – and it’s exactly this that Dixon himself is trying to channel in his music.

Binki

A first generation American whose family is from Kenya, he grew up in Pennsylvania before moving to New York in 2018 after getting a degree in acting at UNC Greensboro. He retains a sense of drama and voyeurism within his songs, which are often short and deliberately claustrophobic, punctuated with one or two specific lines that imbed themselves in the listener’s head.

Wishy

You could call Wishy’s story a lucky one. For years, Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites’ musical paths crossed then diverged, until they finally came together to form a new band. For a couple more years that band morphed, changing names and styles, but once everything cohered, it was clear Krauter and Pitchkites’ musical synergy was a rare one–the kind that sounds like someone hitting the jackpot. Part sly wink and part warm gratitude, it’s only fitting their much anticipated full length debut is titled Triple Seven
